      St Maarten/St Martin Wedding Requirements

  • You must request permission to marry from the Lt Governor of the Island which can take up to 2 months.
  • Once you have permission to marry you must register your marriage at the Civil Registry at least 10 days before the wedding date.
  • 72 hour residency on the Dutch side of the island which must include 3 business days
  • Legal age for marriage for non residents is 21 years.
  • 6 witnesses with photo IDs are required if you marry outside the marriage Hall - 2 witnesses inside the hall.
  • Full birth certificates showing both parents names.
  • A valid 10 year passport.
  • Full address saying how long you will be on the island, full names of both your parents, maiden name of mother as well as her place of birth and birth date, your professions and your parents professions.
  • Declaration of Marital status if you have never been married before, which has been issued no more than 3 months before the wedding.
  • If either party was divorced, all pages of court certified Decree Absolute or a certified copy of the Final Judgement. Divorced women can only marry 306 days after their divorce has become legal.
  • If either party was previously married and windowed, a certified copy of the Marriage Certificate and Death Certificate in respect of the deceased spouse.
  •  Legal name changes or legal adoption papers (if applicable).
